Our cup of coffee may be an essential part of our morning routine, but new research suggests it comes with some serious health benefits. Then, we want to know whether adding vitamins to our coffee would make it a super cup.
There’s no easy answer. According to registered nutritionist Uta Boellinger, it can be a good option for those who aren’t getting the right vitamins from their diet. If someone is unwilling and unable to make any dietary changes and won’t take any supplements in other forms, perhaps having them in their coffee is the best option.
Supplements are a useful tool for boosting our overall health. In Boellinger’s clinic, she always go for a food-first approach but supplements are not only necessary when there is a deficiency, but can help us see results more quickly as they may be more highly concentrated and easier to include than certain foods.
However, BANT registered nutritionist Eva Humphries explains that we need to be wary of the type of nutrients added to our coffee so we can be realistic about the effect. It is also worth noting that synthetic nutrients, such as those typically added to coffee, may not be in the right form for us to fully digest. So we think we are getting 100% of our daily recommended intake of a specific vitamin from that enrich-coffee, but we may only actually assimilate 10% of that nutrient.
As a nutritionist, Humphries suggest supplements to her clients for shorter periods of time if there is a very specific need for them. For example, an athlete will likely have nutrient needs so high that it may be a struggle to meet those needs through food alone. In this context, supplements may be useful. On a more general level, it would be more advantageous to get the vitamins we need from food.

1.C。解析:细节理解题。根据材料第二段第二句中的“it can be a good option for those who aren’t getting the right vitamins from their diet”,我们可知,没有从饮食中摄入合适维生素的人可以在咖啡里面放维生素,故选C项。
2.B。解析:细节理解题。根据材料第四段第一句“However, BANT registered nutritionist Eva Humphries explains that we need to be wary of the type of nutrients added to our coffee so we can be realistic about the effect.”,我们可知,汉弗莱斯对喝含维生素的咖啡的态度是谨慎的。故选B项。
3.B。解析:词义猜测题。根據材料第四段最后一句中的“but”,我们可知,前半句“we think we are getting 100% of our daily recommended intake of a specific vitamin from that enrich-coffee”跟后半句“we may only actually assimilate 10% of that nutrient”是转折关系。
根据材料最后一段的第一句“As a nutritionist, Humphries suggest supplements to her clients for shorter periods of time if there is a very specific need for them.”,我们可知,此处提到“运动员”这一例子是为了论证汉弗莱斯的观点。故选D项。
